I moved to Boise about 9 years ago. I love to garden and was amazed at the variety of plants you can grow in this area. About 4 years ago, I read an article about making leaf imprints in cement and have been hooked ever since.
In my leaf art, I have combined the joy that comes from working with my hands, and my love of textures, colors and lines that appear in nature. I work to recreate something that I can bring indoors to enjoy year round.
The imprint you see is made from an actual leaf. Most of the leaves I use are grown in my garden; they include rhubarb, zucchini, a variety of squash, grape, sunflower, hosta, eggplant and leeks to name a few. After I remove the leaf, I paint and seal the imprint.
When I select a leaf, I began to imagine the shape, color and texture I would like to see. When my creation pleases me and I have a sense of peace, I know that I am done. When you are looking at my work, I would encourage you to touch it to get a true sense of it.
